Chapter 038: Another Failure
Kichi-san swung the sword down from the left, while Yuusei-kun tried to palm-thrust Filman from the right.
However, Filman casually grasped Kichi-san's sword and also Ichinose's arm.
"Argh!"
"Seriously...?"
The movement of the two people completely stopped.
"Is this all you have...? Ah, i guess, for humans you are outstanding. But unfortunately, I am a high-level demon."
When Filman said that, some kind of magic power exploded.
As a result, the two were blown away and crashed into the wall.
"ug!"
"Ouch!"
Even though they just crashed into the wall, both of them were still trying to stand up somehow.
"You must not force yourself to stand up. Several ribs are broken, and you be carefull to not injure the internal organs."
Filman tries to stop the two who are attempting to stand up.
"Because you're going to eat us?"
"Of course. The freshness deteriorates."
"I'd like you to stop that. The two of them are my partners."
"I see... but even if you say that nothing changes."
I guess.
"Miriam, can I win against this guy?"
"He's not a big deal, meow."
"Huh? A Cat?"
Filman noticed Miriam.
"What should I do?"
"Stay calm and move carefully, meow."
"Is that all?"
"That's more than enough, meow. They're no match for an archmage like you, meow."
Huh? Is that true?
"Such a impudent cat, huh... What the? Did the cat just talk?"
"So that's his level, meow. They can't see through my power or yours, Yamada. But make sure to kill him, meow."
I know that much.
This demon is rational and can also communicate.
But unfortunately, their main food is human children.
There's no choice but to fully go through with it.
"You comming...?"
Filman prepares.
I've never been in a fight, but I prepared by imitating.
"You don't seem to be strong... ah?"
When I pour magic into my feet, Filman looks at them.
The next moment i pushed myselve off thanks to the magic infused legs, and aimed a punch towards Filman.
"Huh? Guf!"
My fist hits Filman's cheek, causing him to take a few steps back.
"Wha!? How!?"
I stepped forward and punched Filman again.
"Ugh! I ca, can't see it?! Who are you!?"
"I am a demon exorcist. Sorry, but I will have to purify you."
"Don't mess with me!"
Filman holds up his hand.
"Fire magic, meow. Counter it with water magic, meow."
"Like this?"
As instructed by Miriam, I held up my hand and used the water magic taught to me by Ruri.
Right away a tremendous amount of water gushed out vigorously, far from Ruri's cute shower, extinguishing the small flame in front of Filman's hand.
Of course, Filman became soaking wet.
"What?! No incantation?! And yet such power?! Argh! Is he really an archmage?! Damn it!"
Ah, even this demon recognized me as an archmage.
"Yamada, that guy's trying to escape, meow. You have to kill him now."
Miriam said that, so I pointed my finger at Filman.
"--- Yamada!? Yamada! Reduce your magical power, meow!"
Eh?
I hurriedly tried to stop the magic, but it was already too late and the spell had been activated.
"What's this? Eh? Ah, ah, it's hot! Gyaaaah!!"
Filman was engulfed by a fire pillar, similar to the one from some time ago.
Engulfed by the relentless flames, he eventually stopped moving and was completely consumed by fire.
"Dispel."
With Miriam's word, the fire pillar disappeared.
"Check on the other two, meow. I'll take care of this."
Miriam, glancing up at the ceiling that was now burning with a hole in it, leaped down, so I decided to go check on the two.
Upon arrival, I found both of them unconscious and limp.
"This is bad... Should I call an ambulance? Or maybe the association? Ah right, there's healing magic."
Although I've never used it on anyone else, I decided to try and heal the two by touching them.
A gentle light then wrapped around them.
Looking over at Miriam, I noticed that the ceiling hole and the scorch marks were gone.
Even the wet floor was now clean, and Miriam was walking towards me.
".... uhhn? Wha?"
"Ouch ou... or not?"
The two opened their eyes and started to sit up.
"Are you okay?"
As I spoke to them, they turned to look at me.
"Yamada-san?"
"Wait, where's that demon?"
The two surveyed the room.
"The demon's been slain."
"For real?"
"A, amazing..."
It's not important, but Kichi-san seems to be free from her suggestion.
"It was tough, but its magical power appeared to be running low."
Let's keep it at that.
"I see... was it luck or bad luck, I wonder..."
"It's a good thing, right? And, Yamada-san, I can't thank you enough."
"I'm relieved you're both unharmed. We should head home now. Still, it might be wise to visit the hospital tomorrow. You both took a hit after all."
It was more than just a hit, though.
"Ah, now that you mention it... I thought the damage seemed more severe."
"Right? As long as everyone's okay, that's what counts."
They got up while talking.
"By the way, I ended up incinerating it with fire magic; could that be a problem for determining the rank of the demon?"
"Hmm... that's tricky. It looked like a B rank at the very least..."
"We're willing to vouch for you, but what's your plan? To be honest, whether they'll accept that is up in the air."
A rookie took down a high-rank demon.
But there's no proof.
Yeah, that's not going to work.
"Do you think they'd believe me if I said it was around D rank?"
"That might be possible..."
"It might be better. The reward will be lower, though."
Still, it's better than not being believed at all.
"Alright, let's go with that story."
"Got it. We'll do it that way."
"Yes."
Well, it can't be helped.
This case was just too much of an anomaly.
"Let's head back."
With that, the three of us left the multipurpose hall and headed back.
On the way, Kichi-san passed out while clinging to me, so eventually, we had no choice but to call for someone from the association.
