Chapter 042: Yamada, Village Chief of Another World
After returning home and finishing dinner, I was relaxing when I received a call from Ichinose-kun.
It was about the same stuff that Kichi-san talked about, and when I said "I'm okey with it." he thanked me.
The next day.
Today, we were visiting the village in another world for the first time in a while.
We had breakfast, got ready, and then went to the lab to transform the fertilizer into super fertilizer.
Of course, Miriam escaped.
Ruri and I managed to convert a considerable amount of fertilizer into super fertilizer and packed it into garbage bags in about an hour.
"Phew, I'm exhausted. Shall we head out?"
"Yes."
"Let's hurry. This is tough, meow."
Seeing how tired Miriam looked, we quickly left the house and walked along the forest-lined path to the village.
"Huh? Hasn't the place changed a lot?"
"The houses looks like log cabins now!"
The rundown houses had transformed into a log cabins.
Just like that it all now looked like a campsite.
However, with the houses rearranged, we couldn't tell which one was the village chief's house.
"Which house belongs to whom?"
"Let's ask someone."
"Yeah, let's do that..."
As we wandered through the village, we came across Cody-san harvesting the fields.
"Hello, Cody-san."
"Hmm? Oh, Yamada-san. Look at these vegetables. Thanks to you, we’ve had a bountiful harvest."
Cody-san showed us the vegetables he had harvested.
"That's impressive. But I'm more surprised by the changes to the houses..."
"Well, you guys are the ones who made that possible, right?"
Well, that’s true, but still...
"Isn't it fast? It’s only been about two weeks, right?"
"With those tools and the clean logs you gave us, it was easy. Everyone in the village pitched in to get it done before winter."
Hmm, it still feels quick though.
Well, living in a place like this, they might be good at handling wood.
"How are they?"
"Oh. It's really great. It's easy to live in and warm."
"That’s good to hear. By the way, where is the village chief's house? I can’t seem to find it."
"Yeah, that makes sense. It’s over there."
Cody pointed to a log house ahead.
"Thanks. We'll go check it out."
"Alright."
We parted ways with Cody-san and headed towards the village chief's house.
When we got to the front door, I knocked just to be polite.
"Who is it?"
It's the village chief's voice.
"It's me, Yamada."
"Oh, please, come in."
With permission granted, I entered the house. The glass windows finished the look and now it seemed like any old log house.
"Hello. I was really surprised. All the houses have changed completely."
"Everyone was very enthusiastic. Please, have a seat."
I sit at the table as the village chief suggested.
"So, you even have glass windows now?"
"Yes, thanks to that fertilizer, we had some extra money and were able to buy them in the nearby town."
"Wow..."
Since I only know this place, I don't really understand how far advanced the civilization is.
"We are grateful. Everyone in the village is energized. We thank you Tatsuya-dono."
"I'd prefer if you didn't worship me. What about Monica?"
"She hasn't returned yet, but she should be back soon."

So Monika is still away.
Well, they did say it would take 20 days for a round trip. Guess it's simply that way.
"All right. I brought 20 apple seedlings today, so we can finally start the apple orchard."
"Is that so...? Finally, huh..."
The village chief sets the mood.
"Yes. I'll plant them in the eastern field right away."
"Understood. Could you come back once you're done?"
"Yes, that's the plan."
"Well then, I'm counting on you."
We left the village chief's house and headed east, where we had previously cleared the land.
Using spatial magic to store the soil, we repeated the process of planting seedlings.
"Does this look about right?"
After planting all the seedlings, I wiped the sweat from my brow.
"They'll probably bear fruit in a few days. I can't wait."
"Ruri, can you please water them?"
"Okey."
Ruri nodded and sprinkled water on each seedling like a shower.
The scene was adorable and heartwarming.
"I'm finished!"
"Thank you."
I patted Ruri's head as she returned.
"Dad?"
"I'm not your dad."
I don't have that kind of experience.
Ah, I could cry.
"Yamada, stop moping around and go to the village chief's house."
"Oh, you're right."
We decided to head back to the village chief's house and as we walked, we saw the villagers gathered in front of it.
"What's going on?"
"Who knows?"
"Let's go check it out, meow."
We continued walking and approached the village chief who was standing before everyone.
"Village chief, what's happening?"
"Oh, Tatsuya-dono. You're back. How did it go?"
"Yes, I planted the seedlings. We'll watch them for the next few days."
"That's good to hear."
The village chief nodded in agreement.
"So, what's going on?"
"Monika is about to return, and the village's development is on track now. I thought it was about time."
Ah, so it's about the change in leadership.
"That might be just perfect timing."
"Yes. Well then... everyone, please listen for a moment!"
The village chief addressed everyone.
"Thanks to Tatsuya-dono's efforts, our village has become quite stable. Right now, Monika, the auditor, is in the capital reporting on our village's status."
As the village chief said that, everyone started to buzz with excitement.
"Is that true, village chief?"
One of the villagers asks.
"Yes, and it will be recognized. From now on, let's aim for further development and stability together."
"Will this place become an official village?"
"Sure, our crops have become reliable and plentiful, haven't they?"
"Finally..."
"Thanks to the grand mage, isn't it?"
Everyone looked at each other.
"Everyone, please listen until the end! This village is aiming for further development, but I am getting old. I have been considering retirement for some time now and have discussed it with Monica. Therefore, I would like to retire and entrust the affairs of this village to Tatsuya-dono here. If you agree, please show your support with applause!

When the village chief said that, everyone clapped like roaring thunder.
"Very well. Today marks the day when Tatsuya-dono takes over as the village chief. Yet, as everyone is aware, Tatsuya-dono is the great archmage who has succeeded the late Tadashi's will and is exceedingly busy. Therefore, should any issues arise, consult either myself or Monica."
"Wait? Is the village chief going to stay around?"
"More importantly, what about Monica?"
The villagers asked, confirming.
"Of course, I will stay and assist Tatsuya-dono. Also, Monica, the auditor, will be resigning to serve Tatsuya-dono. She is already taking action for that and is expected to return in a few days."
As the village chief said that, the villagers looked at each other.
"A few days..."
"Monica's house isn't built yet..."
"Wouldn't it be better to hurry?"
"Is she going to cry?"
It seems that Monica's house hasn't been built.
Well, she's not here, so I guess it'll have to wait.
"...That's all for now. Everyone, I'll be counting on you from here on out."
After he said that, everyone cheered.
"Alright. Now get started on building Monica's house immediately. She'll also be Tatsuya-dono's secretary."
I thought she seemed like a secretary, but she will actually become one...
"Oh no, this is bad..."
"Hey, who can move?"
"Everyone can go, right?"
"Hurry up."
The men hurried off somewhere in a panic, and the women also rushed back.
"Tatsuya-dono, I'm counting on you from now on."
While saying that, the village chief bowed toward me.
"Me too. As you mentioned, I won't always be in the village.
"Leave it to me. Also, now that you, Tatsuya-dono, are the village chief, you can call me Daryl from now on."
Ohh yeah, his name was Daryl.
Because everyone calls him the village chief, I'd totally forgotten.
"Well then, Daryl-san. I look forward to working with you.
"Yes, leave the care of the apple seedlings to me."
"Oh, that's right. Ruri."
"Yes."
Ruri hands a notebook to Daryl-san.
"What is this?"
"It has information on how to manage apple trees."
"I see."
"Alirght, I'm counting on you."
We decided to head home after leaving the rest to him.
When we got home, I took a deep breath while drinking the strong bancha tea that Ruri had made for me.
"Wow, I've really become the village chief, huh?"
"This is just the beginning, meow. It's the first step towards greatness for the great aristocrat Yamada, meow."
The great aristocrat Yamada sounds pretty lame, huh.
No offense to all the Yamada-sans out there.
"Well, even if we forget about the noble buisness, I think you are getting pretty close to the slow life you want, Tatsuya-san ."
"Yeah, the money is coming in steadily, and the village seems to be doing well."
Things are going smoothly.
"Yamada, your smartphone is lighting up, meow."
Hmm?
"Oh, it's Kichi-san."
When I picked up my smartphone, I saw a message from Kichi-san.
"Let's see."
Kyouka: Is it okay if I come over to your house now?
"Hmmm..."
What is she talking about?
If she comes to my house, I might truly get aressted...
